Every little girl dreams about her wedding when she is walking down the isle in her beautiful white gown

. Finding the perfect wedding dress for you does not have to be a nightmare if you go about it in the right way.

I always recommend allowing yourself enough time because trying to find a dress in a rush can cause great anxiety. You should start by looking in magazines or bridal stores and try to get a good idea of what you like and feel what would look good on you. Collecting pictures are a good idea and you can bring them with you when you start the purchasing process.

Next you need to decide what type of store you want to purchase your wedding dress in because there are many types to choose from such as; full service bridal shops, wedding warehouses, discount store and you can even shop online. As I recommend for all the other components of the wedding it is best to set a budget for your dress so the cost will fit comfortable into your wedding plans.

When you start your shopping it is best to take a friend or relative with you for there opinions but make sure you limit the number you take because you do not want to be overwhelmed with too many opinions. It is best to bring suitable under attire and heals so it will give you a good idea how the dress will look and fit.

It is imperative to have yourself measured by a store professional so you will have an idea of your correct size. Fit may vary but this will give you a good starting point. Keep in mind most gowns must be altered to some degree so do not get too crazy at first.

After you have found some gowns you like then it is a good idea to take your picture in some of these gowns so you can talk over your future purchase with the ones close to you that will be helping to make that decision.

Once you have decided on the gown you like it is now time to go to the store and place the order. It is very rare that you will take home the exact gown that you try on. Most stores will require a 30-50% non refundable deposit so make sure you get a written contract. Check for the delivery date and make sure the cost of alterations have been figures into the cost of the dress. If you are planning on loosing weight before your wedding make sure you inform the store of this and let them know that you may need more alterations later. It is a must that after your dress arrives at the store that there is adequate time to alter the dress so that it fits you perfectly. The final fitting should not be a last minute thing in case some small changes must still be made.

Finally shopping for the dress should be fun and limit the amount of stores on your first trip so it does not become an overwhelming experience. Be open minded and and look at the experience as the perfect treasure hunt and not an ordeal. Always be open to styles that you thought would not look good on you because sometimes that dress turns out to be the perfect one.
